Knowledge towards Thalassemia and Willingness to Screen among Students in Public Senior High School 3 Bandung

Background: Thalassemia carrier screening is a major preventive measure potentially influenced by the level of knowledge, particularly in adolescents. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze effect health education on knowledge thalassemia adolescents and its association with their willingness do screening.Methods: A cross-sectional was conducted using data regarding before after sessions from 229 students at Public Senior High-School 3 Bandung. All participants attended one-day July 2019. questionnaire filled session, including etiology definition, risk disease, clinical manifestations, treatment, complication, prognosis, disease prevention. Only complete responses were included. These scored quantitatively analyzed for participants’ screen. Results: Participants knowledgeable concerning session (median, range: 60.0, 25.0-90.0), increased significantly 80.0, 35.0-100.0) an median difference=19.99 (p-value <0.001). Although there no significant between overall post-test score screen >0.05), slightly associated improved (OR: 1.02; 95%CI: 1.00-1.03; p-value <0.005). Conclusion: Health increases general thalassemia. However, improving not influencing adolescents’ motivation take tests.
